I have wanted to experience Bryce Canyon ever since I moved to Utah and Rob hadn’t been since he was a kid…So, kind of spontaneously I suggested that we take a last camping trip for the season in late October. We had had an unseasonably long, warm summer so I thought it was a good time to take a chance and head South this late in the year. It hardly felt like winter could be approaching even in late fall. Rob told me if I planned the trip he was all for it! So you bet your bottom I planned a trip! This was a golden opportunity!
We camped just a few miles outside of the park Friday night on BLM land. It was a great spot! The sky was clear, the air a little crisp, and the stars were stunning. Rob was so sweet to give me the warmer sleeping bag, so I nice and cozy warm and slept like a champ. He is too good to me! He on the other hand, was a little cold all night so he didn’t sleep too well.
Saturday morning the air was much cooler, but in my lovely ensemble of long pants, knee high pink and black heart socks, snow boots, checkered down vest, and red puffy, the air felt great to me! The only reason I realized it was cold out was because after taking a few photos I noticed that my hands were not functioning properly. They were totally frozen. I didn’t mind one bit! I was so happy to be there and couldn’t wait to get to Bryce Canyon! I shuffled quietly around the campsite like a little puppy waiting for Rob to wake up for the day. 🙂
We drove into Bryce around 9:30 am. The sun was shining and there was not a single cloud in the sky! We hiked to the Queen’s Garden and Thor’s Hammer. Then we drove out to Rainbow Point at the edge of the park, stopping at all of the view points along the way; Bryce Point, Inspiration Point, and Natural Bridge to name a few. The hoodoos were mesmerizing. I couldn’t take my eyes off of them. They were everywhere and they were stunning! Each one so unique and beautiful. When I look at things like this in nature I can’t help but feel immense gratitude to my Heavenly Father for creating such a beautiful world for us to explore. I love being outdoors for this reason. I feel closer to heaven as I see the work of God’s hands everywhere I go.
These incredible sand sculptures that have been shaped by the elements over time makes me think of a line from scripture, “…even the winds and waves obey him.” God didn’t have to make this world so gorgeous, fascinating, and full of wonder, but He did. He did it for us so that we can enjoy the beauties of the earth and feel joy through His creations. What an amazing and loving God.
With all of my heart I believe as the architect Ludwig Mies Van Der Rohe once said, “God is in the details.”
We had an awesome day hiking through the hoodoos, having a picnic, and enjoying the sunshine in Bryce Canyon. We will definitely be returning again sometime. I desperately want to see the hoodoos in the winter time, covered in a blanket of white – So beautiful I can see it in my dreams! Bryce Canyon was everything I hoped it would be and so much more!
